At APT on W13th St
To celebrate the Hip-Hop Nuggets issue, STOP SMILING hosted a party in New York City at APT. Providing the soundtrack were some of our favorite DJs, including the legendary Pete Rock, who played a headlining set. Pete has been responsible for some of hip-hop's most classic cuts, and came through with a full garage’s worth of classic records. Alongside Pete were Chairman Mao of the mighty Ego Trip collective and Eli Escobar, a longtime staple of the NYC club scene. Mao's set of early hip-hop was flawless, and Eli's transitions from hip-hop to dance music kept the crowd dancing. Among the attendees were hip-hop superstar Fat Joe, breakdancer Crazy Legs, the one-and-only Bobbito Garcia and the entire Ego Trip crew, along with a veritable who's-who of hip-hop journalists, filmmakers, artists and Stop Smiling supporters. People got there early to take advantage of the open bar — Red Bull was kind enough to donate — and partygoers stayed until the early morning. We couldn't have asked for a more successful party.
