On January 4th, Stop Smiling was proud to host a screening of The Run-Up, as well as a Q&A with director Joey Garfield. The Run-Up is a new documentary consisting of vignettes on 26 contemporary artists, whose work can be found in galleries, on the street, in advertisements — even on human skin. The DVD was released by Upper Playground in late 2006, and we were lucky enough to have Joey Garfield, one of the two directors, in town to talk about his experience making the film. In attendance were handfuls of local artists, musicians and art critics, along with regular folks who heard about the event through word of mouth. The audience was engaged and asked plenty of questions, and Joey was as funny and gracious a host as we could have asked for.
