STOP SMILING Headquarters
STOP SMILING was the proud host of Another Chicago Magazine's Issue 49 Release Party on October 15th. Given the theme of the issue -- Animals -- a number of folks came sporting masks and dressed as wildlife, including the gorilla, elephant, mouse, bear, cat, lobster and toucan seen at right.
Readings and performances came courtesy of the issue's contributors: Poetry Magazine's Fred Sasaki, ACM's Jacob Knabb, University of Chicago Ph.D. candidate Paul Durica and the issue's main illustrator, Rob Funderburk, were among them. Each presenter read an animal story from AREA Chicago contributor Erika Mikkalo's series "The Animals," which is featured throughout the issue. Afterward, Literago's Mairead Case won a 20-year old copy of ACM -- featuring an early piece by David Sedaris -- during a raffle to raise funds for the magazine. DJ Frowny and Melissa Grubbs wound down the evening with some easy tunes, but not before they spun the room into a good old-fashioned dance party.
