  • A Celebration of
    Literary Chicago
  • Presented by Granta, Poetry
  • 09.15.2009

sponsored by:

Granta literary magazine paid tribute to Stop Smiling's hometown Chicago with its 108th issue — a collection of work from the city's past and present notables that includes stories by Aleksandar Hemon, Stuart Dybek and George Saunders, essays by Don Delillo (on Nelson Algren) and Wole Soyinka (on Barack Obama), new poetry by Anne Winters, a photo essay by Camilo Jose Vergara, and cover design by Chris Ware.

As part of a week-long series of events that Granta put on in Chicago to celebrate the issue's release, Stop Smiling hosted an evening of poetry at our storefront that included readings by Anne Winters, Reginald Gibbons, and Diego Báez, as well as David Trinidad reading poems by his friend and mentor James Schuyler, and Granta editor John Freeman as Master of Ceremonies. Poetry magazine sponsored the affair, and plenty of people went home with the 'Chicago Issue' of Granta in their hands.
