On October 19th, the Chicago Public Radio Presents monthly event series and STOP SMILING magazine teamed up to host a special book event with Paris Review editor Nathaniel Rich.
Nathaniel read excerpts from The Mayor's Tongue, his celebrated debut novel, which was called "daring and wonderfully weird" by Interview magazine and had the New York Times Book Review writing that Nathaniel has "promise as a fiction writer." A feat of postmodern storytelling, The Mayor's Tongue follows a young man to Trieste, Italy, as he searches out a mystery, and in a separate plot, two elderly men as they search out a new life.
Time Out Chicago books editor Jonathan Messinger moderated a discussion with Nathaniel and Zach Dodson, co-publsher with Jonathan of Featherproof books, who presented a series of book jacket covers designed for Mayor's Tongue author Constance Eakins.
Afterward everyone stuck around for a DJ set by Flameshovel Records' Mannequin Men and to greet the young author with a toast.
+++Thanks to everyone for coming out, and a special thanks to Breeze Richardson and Don Hall at Chicago Public Radio, Featherproof Books and Flameshovel Records.
