STOP SMILING, Penelope's and four of Chicago's leading record labels are hosting “The Syndicate Summer Music Series” in Chicago. Thrill Jockey, Drag City, Flameshovel and Touch & Go records will each present one showcase at The Syndicate, STOP SMILING's event space and headquarters.

Thrill Jockey kicked it all off on June 15th with art-rock band Pit er Pat and Bobby Conn.

In anticipation of their new releases, the two Chicago favorites performed in front of a well-dressed crowd (thanks to Penelope's lovely clientele). Bobby Conn danced and serenaded his way through the packed house while some in the audience, too young to know his Glass Gypsies, looked on with wide eyes. We took the lights down low and got all aflutter when Pit er Pat gave us a peek inside Pyramids, their new album due out on Thrill Jockey in the fall. Everyone left happy and very drunk thanks in part to Goose Island's generous donation of 312 Ale.
