On September 7th, we closed out our Summer Music Series with a pre-party for the Touch and Go 25th Anniversary Festival, a three day long event set up by the influential Chicago record label and the Hide Out Block Party. Touch and Go made its name releasing classic albums by bands like Blonde Redhead, Slint and the Mekons, and have remained relevant over the years by signing newer groundbreaking acts like TV on the Radio, !!! and Coco Rosie.

Supersystem and Enon performed at the STOP SMILING events space for a crowd that included bands from the label, the label head himself (Corey Rusk) and a veritable who’s-who of Chicago musicians. Supersystem (formerly known as El Guapo) had previously released music with the legendary DC punk label Dischord before making the switch to Touch and Go. Their onstage mixing of digital and analog worlds created a powerful and danceable indie rock set. Enon, featuring former members of Brainiac and Blonde Redhead, played their own brand of bruised and emotive music, eliciting an overwhelmingly positive response from the crowd. Both bands performed flawlessly. The attendees, bands and Touch and Go employees thought the evening to be a perfect opening to their festival.
